Recently completing her debut co-directing and editing role on the documentary ‘Everywhere’, Kate is looking for her next great adventure.
Award-nominated film editor, Kate Ellen Campbell, is renowned for her unwavering commitment to capturing heartwarming and authentic stories that celebrate the beauty of life. Whether behind the camera or in the editing room, she is driven by a desire to connect with audiences on a profound level, leaving a lasting impact through her work.
Recently while working at Sum Effect Studio, a commercial photography and filmmaking studio based in Perth, Western Australia. Kate and the team at Sum Effect have been taking on the challenging world of branded films and documentaries, with a prime focus on telling real and compelling stories, about life and the people within business.
Nominated for the WA WIFT Best Female Filmmakers Award at CinefestOZ Film Festival 2020 due to her work on the short film, DEB (2020), Kate started to make a name for herself. Openly inviting audiences in with each story, Kate utilises every tool in her belt to create an emotional and engaging experience with every video she makes.
After graduating in 2019 from the WA Screen Academy, specializing in Editing, Kate worked as a freelance editor, both in-house at Sandbox productions in Perth, and independently, directly with companies, and through advertising agencies such as &Partners. Some of her advertising and corporate clientele include Lottery West, Watches For Switzerland, Brightwater Care Group, The Government of Western Australia, and the City of Fremantle. Outside of commercial work, Kate is continuously working as an editor on short productions, both narrative and documentary, including a 2022 sci-fi short film for Screen West.
In 2022 Kate worked as the Lead Editor on a webseries funded by the Sapphic Investment Film Fund (USA & UK) that will be doing its festival run in 2023 and internationally distributed in 2024.
In her role as Video Editor at Sum Effect Kate is expanding her skills and knowledge towards branded documentaries and commercial content. She greatly enjoys the challenge of finding new and innovative ways to communicate ideas and information through video, whilst always maintaining dedication to audience experience and connection.
Kate is also a founding member of a community-based production company, called The Periscope Crew. TPC focuses on creating filmmaking opportunities for youths with disabilities, allowing them to have creative control over their own stories and encouraging them to be involved in every step of the filmmaking process. Kate is the Head Editor and mentored the crew in editing, storytelling, advertising, and filmmaking. She has edited multiple projects for the crew and has created many opportunities for these emerging artists.
